When It Comes To Sleep, TV Could Be Your Worst Enemy

By admin | October 3, 2007

Have you ever considered that wacthing too much television can cause sleep deprivation and insomnia?

If you have problems getting a good nights sleep, you should try to limit the amount of television that you watch. Another idea is to limit the time that you spend on the computer. These items can literally drain the life out of you. Sure, you will be relaxed and calm when you are sitting in front of these electronics, however, you will also not feel like moving around and getting the exercise that is so necessary for a good nights rest.

But television can harm your sleep in more ways than that…

Watching too much television while in bed can cause you to associate your bed with television instead of sleeping. In order to help prevent future bouts of insomnia, you may want to consider getting your television out of your room or at least turning it off when you go to bed at night.

Another good idea is to set time aside for a “power down hour”, a term first introduced by Dr. Breus “The Sleep Doctor”.

As mentioned above you may feel relaxed when watching TV, but in reality your senses are being bombarded, making it a lot harder to fall asleep. By taking an hour “off” from the TV before you get to bed and maybe listening to some relaxing music you can greatly reduce the risk of TV induced sleep deprivation.
